Terms of Use
These terms apply to your use of the Buddhism: Daily Dharma app ("the app"). By installing or using the app you agree to them. Your download and any purchase are also subject to Apple's App Store terms, and where these terms are silent, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies.
1. Licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to install and use the app on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store rules. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source of the app, or use it to build a competing product. Except for the public-domain source texts described in section 5, the app's software, explanations, guided session scripts, illustrations, sounds, and design are provided for your personal use only and may not be redistributed.
2. What the app is, and is not
- The app is a beginner practice companion grounded primarily in early Buddhist texts. It offers short readings, a timer, text-guided sitting sessions, suggested real-world actions, a private journal, and a Library of the full source texts.
- Two journeys, Working with Difficult Emotions and Change and Letting Go, are practice with what the early texts say about pain, anger, worry, loss and change. They are not treatment, therapy, or grief support.
- It is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice or treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a qualified professional. If you are unwell, distressed, or in crisis, contact a healthcare professional or your local emergency services.
- It is not religious instruction from a teacher, monastery, or organisation, and it does not replace a teacher or a community. It does not claim that all Buddhist traditions teach identically.
- We make no claims of spiritual attainment, enlightenment, or health benefit from using the app.
- The app cannot verify anything you do outside it. "Tried it" and similar controls record what you tell the app, nothing more.
- Counts shown in the app (days practised, sitting minutes) are factual totals of what you recorded on this device. They are not scores, rankings, or assessments of you.
3. Free features
The Getting Started journey (7 days), the 28-day repeating Daily Practice rotation (28 practices), the whole Library in the Read tab (all 120 bundled texts read in full, including the complete Dhammapada in 26 chapters and 423 verses and 94 discourses, each with a short original introduction, and a glossary of 73 terms), all bundled source excerpts, the silent timer with optional chime, two guided session templates, device read-aloud for any lesson or guided session you can access, the journal, the calendar, and the factual counts are free and remain free for as long as the app is available. Day 1 of each of the eight Daily Dharma Plus journeys is also free as a complete preview.
4. Daily Dharma Plus subscription
- What it includes. Daily Dharma Plus gives access to the eight complete journeys, 104 days in all (The Eightfold Path, 21 days; 14 Days of Metta, 14 days; Right Speech in Real Life, 14 days; The Four Noble Truths, 10 days; Working with Difficult Emotions, 14 days; The Body as Home, 14 days; Giving and Gratitude, 7 days; Change and Letting Go, 10 days), all twelve guided session templates in 3-, 5- and 10-minute versions, up to three saved personal routines assembled from the bundled practice library, and weekly reviews with measured facts and fixed reflection prompts.
- What it does not include. No coaching, no community, no new weekly content, no recordings by a person, and no free trial. Personal routines reuse practices from the bundled library; repeating practices are expected. We do not promise that new lessons will be added.
- Options and price. Plus is an auto-renewing subscription with a monthly and an annual option. The exact price and billing period for your country are shown in the app before you buy. Proposed United States prices at launch are US $4.99 per month and US $29.99 per year; the price shown in the app at the time of purchase is the one that applies.
- Billing and renewal. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges your account for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing and cancelling. You manage and cancel the subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings (iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the period already paid for.
- Refunds. Purchases are made from Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
- When a subscription ends. Your journey progress and routine definitions are kept; you will not lose them. New sessions use the free features. All journal entries remain readable, editable, exportable, and deletable. A session you had already opened while subscribed can be finished.
- Restoring. If you reinstall the app or use another iPhone signed in to the same Apple ID, use Restore Purchases to regain Plus access. Restoring a subscription does not transfer your journal or practice history, which live only on the original device.
- Not a donation. A subscription is a payment for software features. It is not a donation to any person or organisation, it is not a religious duty, and no merit or spiritual standing is promised in return.
5. Content, sources, and corrections
- Source excerpts and the full texts in the Library are translations by Bhikkhu Sujato published on SuttaCentral, dedicated to the public domain under Creative Commons Zero (CC0). The app displays them unchanged, with a link to each original text; the 120 source files are pinned to one commit of SuttaCentral's repository with a checksum for each. A full list is on the Sources page. Those texts are free for anyone to use; nothing in these terms restricts them.
- The app's explanations, Library introductions, glossary, practice scripts, and other original text were developed with AI assistance and checked against the linked source texts. That checking was performed by a language model, not by a human reviewer or a teacher. They are one plain-language reading of the passages, not an authoritative interpretation, and they may contain errors.
- The app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or reviewed by the translator, SuttaCentral, or any Buddhist organisation.
- If you believe something is inaccurate, email gpmediacontact@gmail.com with the lesson title and what you think is wrong. We may revise content in app updates. Content updates never overwrite your journal entries.
6. Your data
Your journal and practice data are stored on your device only, as described in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for exporting or backing up anything you want to keep. We are not able to recover data from a lost, reset, or replaced device.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the app in any way that breaks the law, interferes with its operation, or attempts to bypass its purchase checks. The app is provided for individual use.
8. Changes to the app and to these terms
We may add, change, or remove features, and we may update these terms. If a change materially reduces what Daily Dharma Plus includes, we will say so in the app or on this site before it takes effect for renewals. We will not remove your ability to read, export, or delete your own journal entries. The current terms are always available at this address; continued use after a change means the updated terms apply.
9. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of content, or uninterrupted availability. Narration depends on voices installed on your device, and notifications depend on your iOS settings; we do not guarantee either.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including loss of data stored on your device. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law gives you and that cannot be waived.
11. Termination
You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it; cancel any subscription separately through your Apple ID settings. We may end this licence if you materially breach these terms.
12. Governing law
[Governing law and venue to be confirmed by the publisher before publication.] Nothing in this section affects consumer protections that apply where you live.
