FreshScan: Food Expiration

FreshScan Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 15, 2026

FreshScan: Food Expiration ("FreshScan", "the app") is an iPhone app that reads printed expiration dates with your camera and reminds you before food is forgotten. This policy explains what the app does with information, which is very little: everything stays on your iPhone.

The short version

Information stored on your device

When you use FreshScan, the following is saved in the app's private storage on your iPhone:

This information never leaves your device unless you choose to include the app's data in your own device backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), which is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's terms and is not accessible to us.

Camera

FreshScan asks for camera access the first time you open the scanner. The camera is used only to recognize the date printed on packaging and to take a quick photo of the product. Recognition happens on the device using Apple's built-in text-recognition frameworks. No camera frames or photos are uploaded anywhere.

If you decline camera access, the app still works: you can enter dates by hand or choose an existing photo. Choosing a photo uses Apple's system photo picker, which does not give the app access to your photo library.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, FreshScan schedules local reminders on your device before and on an item's date. These are local notifications created by the app on your iPhone; no push notification service or server is involved. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings at any time.

Purchases

FreshScan Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription sold through Apple's App Store. Apple processes the payment and manages the subscription. The app only receives confirmation from Apple that a subscription is active; we never see your name, payment details or Apple ID. Apple's handling of purchase data is described in Apple's privacy policy.

Data we do not collect

FreshScan does not collect or process:

The app's privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.

Network access

FreshScan works fully offline. The only network activity is Apple's StoreKit framework communicating with the App Store to load subscription prices and verify purchases.

Children

FreshScan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Deleting your data

Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the effective date changed. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
