FreshScan Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to FreshScan: Food Expiration ("FreshScan", "the app"). By downloading or using the app you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
The app is also subject to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Apple EULA"), available at https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. Where these Terms and the Apple EULA conflict, the Apple EULA governs.
1. What FreshScan does
FreshScan uses your iPhone's camera to read printed expiration, use-by, best-by and sell-by dates on packaging, stores the items you save on your device, and schedules local reminders before those dates.
2. Not food-safety advice
FreshScan reads printed dates and reminds you about them. It does not, and cannot, judge whether food is safe to eat.
- Text recognition can misread a label, especially on damaged, curved, glossy or poorly lit packaging. Always check the date shown on the confirmation card against the package before saving.
- Printed dates are set by manufacturers and mean different things ("best by" is about quality, "use by" is closer to safety). FreshScan presents them as reminders only.
- Storage conditions, opened packaging and other factors affect whether food is safe. Use your own judgement and follow the manufacturer's and public health guidance.
You are solely responsible for decisions about what to eat or discard. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for illness, loss or damage arising from reliance on a date the app read, a reminder that was or was not delivered, or any other use of the app.
3. License
Subject to these Terms and the Apple EULA, you are granted a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use FreshScan on Apple devices you own or control. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app except as permitted by law.
4. FreshScan Pro subscription
The free version of FreshScan keeps up to 10 active items. FreshScan Pro unlocks unlimited items, adjustable reminder timing and impact insights.
- FreshScan Pro is an auto-renewable subscription available monthly or yearly. The current price is shown in the app and on the App Store before you buy and may vary by country.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions) at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period remains active until it ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. We cannot issue refunds directly.
- Tap Restore Purchases in the app to reactivate a subscription on a new device or after reinstalling.
When a subscription ends, items you already saved remain on your device, but the free limit and free feature set apply again.
5. Your data
Everything you save in FreshScan is stored on your device and is yours. The app does not collect or transmit personal data; see the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for backing up your device if you want to keep your data.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use the app in any way that violates applicable law, or attempt to interfere with the app's operation or with Apple's services.
7. Availability and changes
We may update, change or discontinue the app or any feature at any time. We may update these Terms; the effective date above will change when we do. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of date recognition, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising from the app is limited to the amount you paid for the app or subscription in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages.
10. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time by deleting it. We may terminate or suspend your access if you breach these Terms.
